Sermon Outline

Read:

  • Acts 18:18-28
  • Acts 19:1-41
  • Ephesians
  • Revelation 2:1-7

A student is one who learns to know.

A disciple is someone who learns to act or apply.

The purpose of our Equip classes is to help you learn to think, feel, and act like a Christian.

At the time that Revelation was written, the Church was only around 60 years old.

Revelation 1:10; Revelation 1:19

We find an order to the book of Revelation.

  1. Past: The things John “saw” – chapter 1
  2. Present: The things that “are” or the state of the church – chapters 2-3. We are still in this age.
  • Symbolism found in Revelation 2-3
  • A vision of Jesus – Read Revelation 1:12-17
    • In this vision there is symbolism to Christ’s work:
    • “White hair” means wisdom and purity.
    • “Eyes like fire” means holiness and vision.
    • “Feet like burnished bronze” means Christ the Divine Judge.
    • “Voice like many waters” shows a roar no one will resist or challenge.
    • “From the mouth a two-edged sword”. Read Hebrews 4:12. It both defends His servants and attacks His enemies.  Read Revelation 19:19-21
    • “Face shining like the sun” shows His shining glory.
    • He is the Living One.
    • He’s risen from the grave with the keys of death and hades in His hand.
    • Jesus has all authority to judge. Read

John 5:21-26

  • This is a picture of Jesus as Almighty God. This is a picture of the One we serve. How should we approach Him?
  1. Future: Things that are “to take place” – chapters 4-22.

Here are some thoughts to consider as we study the seven churches:

  • Jesus points to the good. Are we doing those things?
  • Jesus points to the failures. Have we overcome those things?
  • Jesus points to the promise for the overcomers. Do we want those blessings?

Are you ready for good work?

What good work are you doing?
