Sermon Outline

The Seven Churches - Laodicea

February 28, 2024 | Mark Johnson

Revelation 3:14-22

These are the words of Jesus, the faithful and true witness and the beginning of God’s creation.

He knows the works of the church.

Laodiceans saw themselves as really good. However, they had drifted into the mediocre.

Jesus is saying you don’t realize it, but you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.

How can we know we are in trouble? When the actions of our faith have stopped growing.

Why do Christians stop growing? We think we have arrived, we have it, or we are good.

Why do we stop working? We think we have done enough, and we are fine.

Psalm 139:23-24

The disciple’s heart is one that says, “Search me, know me, try me, see my thoughts. If there is anything grievous in me, lead me in the way everlasting.”

Revelation 3:20

We think of this when we think of the lost.  While that does apply, Jesus is talking to the church of Laodicea.

Here are some promises.

“If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.”

  • “Hears my voice” – listens to His word
  • “Opens the door” – applies His word to their lives
  • “I will come in and eat with him and he with me” – fellowship with Jesus

“To the one who conquers I will grant him to sit with me on my throne” is an invite to sit with the Son of God in heaven.
