Sermon Outline

Desperation
May 30, 2021 | Mark Johnson

1 Samuel 1:12-17

Do you believe in life after death?

It is not hyperbole to say we live in a day of great spiritual conflict.

We live in a time when the followers of Christ are losing.

All of these are good, but none of them will win the day.

We are in a spiritual battle, and it will only be won by spiritual means.

Right now, we need spiritual first responders.

Hannah knew what she wanted. She knew that only God could intervene.

Do we see the need and does it stir our hearts?

Engaging in the spiritual battle is not a matter of wishful thinking, fleeting prayers, or acknowledgement of God’s will. We enter the field of combat with persevering, heartfelt, spirit-driven, faith-believing prayer.

Engage with God. God will answer. Nothing is hopeless.

  • Make an appointment with God.
  • Pray and don’t give up until you see the answer.

Colossians 4:12

We want easy prayer. However, over and over again the Bible uses words like struggling, wrestling, striving, agonizing, and fervency in regards to prayer.

We are called to the fight of faith.

I am not overstating this. I am not making a big deal out of nothing. It is time to engage in the spiritual battle.

If our hearts are not desperate, then our first prayer should be, “Let my heart beat like Yours.”

Read 2 Chronicles 20 this week.
