Let's Talk About This

Philippians 4:1-5

The story of the birth of the church of Philippi is inActs 16:11-40.

How to have peace in your mind and heart is spelled out inPhilippians 4:6-7.

Paul, apparently, is concerned about the health and unity of the church.

Philippians 1:27

This is a powerful call to Christians to have a mindset that is selfless.

Philippians 2:1-4

A standard is set for us. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone!

What does reasonableness mean in this passage?

Paul is talking about disputes, and what our mindset should be when we get into a disputed discussion.

If both people have the correct mindset, would disputes be uncomfortable?

Let reasonableness be the mindset of the believer.

In Philippians 2 we see a list of things that show the way to reasonableness.

  • Being of the same mind and same love.
  • Do nothing from selfishness conceit or pride.

Here is one of the transformational statements of the Bible: “count others more significant than yourselves.”

Limited love gets in the way of reasonableness.

The “same love” is about having a love for a Godly righteous outcome.

Here is the mindset of reasonableness:

  • You can talk without emotions taking over issues.
  • You can judge purely on the actions and outcome and come to the right conclusions.
  • You can hear the other side of the matter.
  • Reasonableness understands the rules.
  • Godly foundational truth is imperative to reasonableness.

Being of the same mind and same love is essential for reasonableness.

The mindset of reasonableness is unity
