John 1:1-5

In the Beginning –Genesis 1:1

  • Everything we see was created.
  • Genesis marks the beginning of time as we know it.

John talks about the Word and points to the fact that Jesus is the Word.

John 1:14

Four things about Jesus:

  1. Jesus is God.
  2. Jesus pre-existed time and creation.
  3. Jesus is the source of all creation.
    • John 1:3
  4. Jesus came to the earth with a purpose.
    • John 1:4

We are given life, but Jesus is life. We are dependent on God for life.

Jesus is the light for men or revelation to men.

  • Jesus shows us the fullness of God.
  • Jesus reveals the nature of sin in us.
  • Jesus is the revelation of all that is true and right.

Jesus came to open the door of relationship between fallen man and a holy God.

Colossians 1:15-16 – He is the image of the unseen God.

Hebrews 1:3-4 – In the Godhead, the Son functions as the Revealer of God and is God in reality.

Jesus on the earth reveals the fullness of the nature of God.

We see the nature of God in Jesus.

Three defining passages:

  • Jesus came because mankind needed saved.
