Week Four - Steadfastness

2 Peter 1:3–8 (ESV)

The Bible is the most amazing and unique book ever written.

The nature and makeup of the world itself cries out that there is a creator.

The only writing in the history of mankind that gives us a picture of the nature of God that is in unity with his creation, a picture of how life with each other can work with moral wholeness and a picture of the future that is backed up by his past predictions of events in the future, that have now come true, is the Bible.

When you read the Bible you find peace, wisdom, and faith.  Life as it was meant to be starts with faith.

Faith leads to action.
Peter is calling us to maturity in Christ, to learn how to think, feel, and act like Jesus.

Steadfastness
Steadfastness is the ability to walk without deviating from the path under a load.

This word is used throughout the New Testament, it implies the ability to stay strong and focused in tough times. Two are defined as trials.
James 1:2-4, 12 (ESV)

Steadfastness in trials

  • Trials in the natural course of life.
  • Trials as a course of faith.

Faith is required

Promise one for steadfastness is the “crown of life.”

Romans 5:2–5 (ESV)

Promise two for steadfastness is “life here.”

Steadfastness in the face of temptation
James 1:13-15

Promise three for steadfastness is “relationship with God.”

When we are steadfast we remain faithful to our faith in all circumstances, in every trial looking forward to God’s promise.

The persevering spirit looks at every event, positive and negative, as a way to have the Glory of God revealed in them and through them.

This world in all its honor and all its pain is temporary.

Faith is required

Sometimes in life we are called to be steadfast in the storm

Romans 3:16–18 (ESV)
