Wrestle with the Word

Proverbs 2:1-10 (ESV)

Message of the day: you need to wrestle with the Word.

Search out the Word and apply what it says in your life.

Three things that shape our thinking and our actions:

  • Culture

  • Upbringing

  • Sin nature

When the world tells me something that doesn’t fit with how I live or how I see life, I need to wrestle with these questions:

  • What does the Word say?

  • How should I act?

  • Why should I act this way?

  • What should I do

Proverbs 2:1-10 (ESV)

This is repeated over and over again; we are to:

  • Seek out the Word

  • Give attention to the Word

  • Try to understand the Word in our mind and in our heart

  • Ask God to reveal the Word to us

  • See the Word as a treasure

Proverbs 13:13 (ESV)

Proverbs 16:20 (ESV)

Proverbs 23:12 (ESV)

How do I do wrestle with the Word?

  • By reading the Bible

  • Through teaching

  • Being a part of a small group

  • Seeking out advice from other believers

Proverbs 3:5-10 (ESV)

The whole concept of money and faith is an issue you need to wrestle with and settle in your life.

How do you do this righteously?

  • Find out what The Bible says. Do a word study on tithe, offering, generosity, giving, and money.

  • Pastors

  • Talk with other believers

  • Hear others’ testimonies

  • Put God to the test

Proverbs 4:18 (ESV)
