Sermon Outline

Matthew 5:13

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus began to lay out the rules and establish His kingdom.

Matthew 5:13-16 is a pivotal point in the message.

The message moves past my place as an individual to my place in a lost kingdom.

After the Beatitudes, He lays out a disciple's responsibility.

A responsibility is not a choice. We are being picked to volunteer. We are being voluntold.

Matthew 5:13

As the salt of the earth, we are to work at preserving what is good and true among all men.

The sin nature is based on selfishness, and curses all restraint.

Jesus looks at His disciples and says, "You are the salt of the earth."

The Salt of the Earth
We are called to be a voice of truth in the midst of the lie of sin.

Over the centuries, some have stood for truth and have been rewarded.

Sometimes there is a challenge before a reward.
Some have laid down their lives, but God promises a martyr's reward in heaven.

We have been voluntold to know the truth, to speak it, and stand for it.

To have the ability to do this, we must be knowledgeable of the Word and be given wisdom by the Spirit.

Being the salt of the earth throughout our lives is our responsibility.
