Peace for the Troubled Heart

John 14:1-3

This passage impacts our thinking about Heaven as much as any passage in the Bible.

What a great picture Jesus gives us, but where the chapter and verse is broken takes away some of the drama and impact of the moment.

They are in the upper room just hours before the crucifixion.

Jesus turns the page and gives them a word that becomes permanently embedded as a message to all believers through the writing of John.

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.”

It is in this moment that Jesus steps into the center of our lives and says, “Let not your heart be troubled. Believe in God and believe in me.”

This is where peace starts: in the belief that God exists and that God loves you. His word is true, His promises are sure.

The heart that is free from trouble is the heart that is fully dedicated to seeking and knowing God, to putting faith in Him at all times.

One of the warped viewpoints of man's relationship with God that people get from a light reading of the scripture is that God loves us all the same, so God responds to us all the same.

God does love us all, but He responds with reward to those who seek Him.

The man who cries out to God only when he is in trouble, will have a troubled life and heart.

Proverbs 1:24-33
The life that pursues God is not free from trouble but is free from a troubled heart

Learn to take refuge in Him. He will give you peace in the storm.

Jesus goes on to get them to celebrate. He starts talking about Heaven - a home for them.

The enemy tries to ruin the meaning of words that are supposed to carry deep purpose in our lives.

Jesus tells them, “In my Father's house are many rooms. You will not come as a guest; you will come as part of the family.”

Even in the best of circumstances we find ourselves as aliens

The church is supposed to be a home for believers that is filled with God’s love, peace, and security

He finishes this part of the message with a promise. “If I go, I will come again someday to take you there.”

There are two ways He could come for us: one-on-one or everyone at once

Jesus says, “Let not your heart be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.”
